Halogens are considered as the standard and Godfather of headlights. This vehicle lighting came out in 1962 and still available in today’s market. It is easy to find and the most affordable option.

A halogen vehicle headlight uses tungsten as a filament. The filament heats up by flowing electric currents, which then produces the light. When looking for Xenon headlights, you might come across Xenon High-intensity discharge (HID) lights. It is a type of xenon headlight that utilizes electrical gas-discharge to produce light. The bulb creates an electric arc between tungsten electrodes, which then creates illumination.

Compared to Halogens, Xenon has a longer lifespan and brighter. Unfortunately, it is quite expensive and requires the assistance of an electrician for replacement.


It is the most advanced type of vehicle lighting. Manufacturers usually use this bulb for recent car models.

Laser headlights work similarly to HID lights, but instead of electricity, it uses a laser. Most think that the light that comes out of this lamp is an actual laser. The truth is the laser is only used as an alternative to electricity for charging photons. This feature is what makes laser headlights flexible. The light it produces can reach longer distances.

Sadly, it is quite expensive and only available in hybrid cars, as well as luxury brand vehicles. Currently, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz are some of the car brands which utilize laser headlights.
